Mike McDonald

Mike McDonald is a partner in the firm of McDonald Steed McGrath and was the original founder of its predecessor McDonald & Co in 1988.

Prior to going into private practice, Mike was employed variously as general counsel to CSR / Delhi Petroleum in Adelaide and corporate solicitor to the Bell Group, TVW Enterprises Ltd in Perth and the Department of Defence in Canberra. In his more than thirty years of practice he has lived and worked in many parts of Australia and has worked for or dealt with many of the major resources companies operating in Australia.

Over the last fifteen years Mike has specialised in providing legal services to various projects throughout the state, securing work with Government Pipelines Authorities, SA Natural Gas Task Force and the Cooper Basin oil and gas development. In more recent times he has acted as the legal advisor to the Beverley Uranium Mine Development in the State's far north, the SAMAG Magnesium Development project, the Dominion Challenger Mine Development and the Virginia Irrigation Scheme, and the TEKSING Project involving the salvage and sale of porcelain from the wreck of a Chinese vessel off Indonesia.

During this period Mike also developed an offshore client base for the firm, successfully providing migration, mining and business legal services to the Asian region.

Mike's main areas of practice include:

• All aspects of Mining Resources and Energy Law including Native Title and Aboriginal Heritage matters.
• General commercial law.
